Boxing
The moves that boxer’s use in their training can offer a wide range of health benefits. You don’t need to take up the sport of boxing in order to incorporate this interval training into your workout. This type of vigorous exercise helps build strength, improves the cardiovascular health and releases endorphins, the hormones designed to help you feel happier, confident and less tense. Therefore, hitting the punching bag can be an excellent stress-reliever.
Boxing can also be considered a weight-bearing exercise. The type of pressure placed on your bones during the training can actually make them stronger and may reduce your risk of bone loss through diseases like osteoporosis.
Kickboxing
If you want to get a whole body workout, get fit, learn self-defense moves, improve your cardiovascular and bone health then you may want to take up kickboxing. This is a different form of boxing because it engages all muscle groups in order to achieve overall body fitness. Some of the moves you will be performing will be: bobbing and weaving, kicking, punching and knee-ups.
In addition to the vast amount of health benefits you can achieve with this type of training, you will also find that your reflexes will improve, even if you practice with a punching bag because the bag will come back to you and you will learn the techniques of how to dodge the bag, strike and how to gauge the distance you will need in order to effectively throw and land the kicks and punches. Plus, you will train your fast twitch and slow twitch muscle fibers. Fast twitch muscle fibers are fast but do not last very long…so these are helpful during more heavier resistance or strength training using less reps but more weight. Slow twitch muscle fibers are most helpful during more cardio intensive training like marathons, since the the muscle fibers fire more slowly, therefore lasting a lot longer. These muscle fiber are can’t handle heavier weights but are good for doing lighter weighted resistance for long periods of time. So, now you should be able to see why these muscle fibers are quite useful for Kickboxing and/or Boxing workouts.
