Fitness Tips for Thanksgiving and Black Friday
Personal Fitness & Shaping U Tips for Thanksgiving and Black Friday
Thanksgiving is approaching and many people will be travelling to visit family and friends. There are certain tips on how to be safe whether you’ll be travelling near or far or staying right at your own home.
7 Thanksgiving safety tips
Plane – If you will be riding on an airplane Mayo Clinic suggests that you get up and walk around to stretch your legs. Here’s why:
“Sitting with your feet on the floor for a long period causes blood to pool in your leg veins. The position of your legs when you are seated also increases pressure in your leg veins. This contributes to foot swelling by causing fluid to leave the blood and move into the surrounding soft tissues…”
Viruses - If you are sick it is suggested to wear a mask to reduce the risk of spreading viruses to others.
Road safety – Follow the rules of the road. Buckle up.
Alcohol – Depending on how far you’ll be travelling weather conditions can increase the risk of accidents. Drinking alcohol can slow down reaction time. If you will be drinking choose a designated driver.
Weather - Check the weather before you travel. If you’ll be travelling by car to places that are cold or will be having snow or freezing rain you should pack a shovel (for snow) and cat litter, salt or something similar in order to give your vehicle traction, in case you get stuck.
Hand sanitizers – In order to reduce your risk of getting sick bring some hand sanitizer with you and use it when soap and water are not readily available. Keep it out of the reach of children.
Lifting procedures – Whether you’ll be lifting a turkey, a pan of mashed potatoes, or a heavy box it’s important to follow the proper lifting procedures. Remember to bend your knees and lift with your legs.
4 Black Friday Tips
- Arrival - Take your time while driving in order to get to your destination safely. Although the item you’re trying to get may be important there are things more important, such as your safety.
- Stay Calm - Try to remain calm if someone takes your parking spot. Take a few deep breaths and try to look for another space to park. It’s not worth getting into an altercation because you do not know what that person is feeling.
- Replenish - If you will be walking quite a bit and lifting a lot it is important to replace the calories you will be burning and replenish your fluids. Don’t overindulge.
- Rest – if you’re going out late at night or early in the morning it’s important to get rest prior to going shopping.
